Green Initiatives

In 2009, WMS officially launched its company-wide green initiative which underscores the Company’s commitment to corporate responsibility and environmental sensitivity in every aspect of its operations and business practices.

All WMS U.S. offices have created Green Committees that meet on a regular basis to develop appropriate corporate and employee actions and measures to mitigate conditions that impact the environment. A Green link has been added to WMS’ Intranet to highlight Green ideas for work and home, to keep all employees informed on actions that the Green Committees are taking to focus attention on and address specific eco-sensitive issues, and to list available resources and offer links to other useful sites that encourage users to become involved.

At WMS corporate offices and in every market where the company operates it is establishing new efficiency goals. Consistent with the Company’s overall continuous improvement methodologies, WMS is carefully evaluating how it operates all facilities and analyzing energy and resource consumption as well as putting in place broader recycling programs. WMS expects to meaningfully reduce its environmental impact as it reduces paper use, energy consumption and waste. For example, throughout the Waukegan and Chicago facilities, WMS is eliminating the use of Styrofoam cups, plastic ware and paper plates while fountain soda machines in cafeterias have been retrofitted to include a water line dispenser to discourage the use of bottled drinking water. In addition, recycling containers have been added throughout facilities to ensure that plastic bottles, aluminum, and paper are sorted appropriately.

WMS is also taking an active role in embracing local eco-sensitive projects with employees volunteering their time and efforts to projects in the markets where it operates. This grassroots involvement demonstrates the overall commitment of the entire WMS organization. The projects adopted are wide-ranging and address different needs in different communities. WMS personnel are involved in hands-on projects ranging from urban street clean up to water conservation to electronics recycling. In addition, new WMS facilities are being planned to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification, the highest designation for environmentally sustainable construction under the Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
