How Account Based Wagering Works

Unlike “traditional” Advanced Funds Transfer (AFT) based cashless systems, the WMS ABWS does not transfer credits and never downloads the patron’s funds to the slot machine but instead functions similarly to an ATM. Patrons insert casino loyalty cards into the EGM’s card reader, log on with their PIN, and then transact with the server in real time as they play. Any money or tickets inserted into the bill acceptor will be immediately and automatically deposited to the patron’s account. So if a slot machine loses connectivity to the server the player’s funds are not stuck on the machine. Ultimately, this system is designed to be transitional technology enabling a phased approach toward a solid state slot floor.

ABWS is also designed to enable responsible gaming initiatives. Since the operator now knows exactly how much a patron has wagered the moment a wager is made, they can send a message to the guest in real time on the slot machine screen using WMS’ FreedomPort™ application and can even shut down the player’s account indefinitely.
